Ask the ServicePower Experts: Sam Sippl, Chief Financial Officer

Next up in our Q&A series with ServicePower leadership is our chat with Sam Sippl, ServicePower’s Chief Financial Officer. Sam provides insight into his role at ServicePower, where he oversees the finance, Managed Services, and HR teams.

Sam Sippl ServicePower CFO

What does your job as the ServicePower Chief Financial Officer entail?

Sam: The fact that the role encompasses so much, including both strategic and tactical responsibilities, is what makes the position challenging and rewarding.

One of my primary responsibilities is overseeing all aspects of ServicePower’s financial operations. This includes managing the company-wide budget as well as departmental budgets. I need to make certain we deploy the optimal use of our resources to drive growth while evaluating the financial implications of each decision we make as a company. This includes participating in strategic planning and capital investment decisions.

Together with my team, I develop and implement financial plans and strategies that align with ServicePower’s goals. This includes analyzing financial data, forecasting future trends, and providing insights to support informed decision-making across the organization. Our internal control systems ensure adherence to regulatory guidelines and reporting standards, while also mitigating corporate risk.

One of the things I enjoy most about the role is the opportunity to work cross-functionally with every team within ServicePower. I regularly interact with sales, marketing, engineering, product, customer success, customer support – and of course the finance, Managed Services, and HR teams that I oversee directly. We’ve built strong, knowledgeable, high-performing teams across North America and Europe that are dedicated to helping our customers solve their biggest challenges, and seeing the company grow to one of the world’s leading field service management companies is truly a gratifying experience.

Every day brings new challenges and new opportunities – and that’s what I love about it.

That cross-functional interaction Sam speaks of is critical to ServicePower, as the financial performance of the company is tied to each functional area’s performance. As McKinsey and Company notes, “the CFO must guide other C-suite leaders through the long- and short-term trade-offs associated with investing in capability building and help them define the means and metrics to monitor progress toward performance goals.”

With seemingly never-ending global uncertainties, the role of CFO is crucial, as these officers help prepare for unforeseen events while increasing efficiency, lowering costs, and determining the right growth investments. As companies look to grow revenue and drive technology, data, and partnership initiatives, it’s the CFO who helps steer the business forward. KPMG notes that helping their organizations navigate change and disruption is one of the most important attributes for CFOs.

Mindful of ServicePower’s customer-centric mentality, only with the proper investments and operational management will all customers – existing and future – benefit the most. And having that guidance from the CFO continues to help ServicePower and its customers move forward.
